¿Volverán a coincidir? I have purchased one thing from AliExpress ever, and it was kind of a miserable experience, so I don’t foresee myself doing it again. But I’m still unfortunately well aware of the range of goods the site offers, thanks to Instagram ads. A friend of mine got served one recently that could only be the product of AI’s vast, cursed imagination, and it’s so absurd that I had to share it here. Titled the “2024 Personality Creative Casual Fashion Luxury Style Backpack School Bag Male Girlfriend Birthday Gift,” (you may have to switch your region outside of the U.S. to view it), this is a backpack shaped like the rear end of a Porsche 911—sometimes. Because while two of the images definitely present a 911-esque design, as we can see below, one of them doesn’t really correspond to any car at all. It doesn’t even share the obviously very functional spoiler of the examples in the other pictures. Slop like this is unfortunately just a part of everyday life now, and more than anything, I’m curious what I would actually receive if I spent the—deep breath now—$200 plus $130 in shipping to get it. Would it be a picture of the backpack? Which backpack would it look like—the one with the carbon diffuser or the body-color one? If by some miracle it was a real backpack, how would you even open the damn thing without obvious zippers anywhere? I have many questions, but unfortunately, The Drive’s editorial budget doesn’t really allow me to satisfy that curiosity. The “2024 Personality Creative Casual Fashion Luxury Style Backpack School Bag Male Girlfriend Birthday Gift” was a mystery to me. But I didn’t want to wait for the 2025 model to drop, so I did some more digging. What I found was another 911-shaped bag—and this one, dare I say, kind of does look real. Called the “Camping Bag Men’s backpacks Tactical backpack Women’s bag Backpack backpack school,” this version is more affordable despite being four times the backpack of the other one, priced at $83 with $53 for shipping and handling. Still quite expensive, but at least the pictures don’t appear to have been generated by Grok, so I’d wager that there’s more of a chance of receiving a physical product here. Up close, we see its hard shell has the texture of a car’s dashboard, and there are exactly two pockets within. Otherwise, you have the entire inside of a 911’s ass to store oddly shaped objects. It’s not exactly the most practical shape for cargo—it’s better suited for engines, after all. Perhaps a backpack modeled in the image of a different car would be a little more usable. I imagine the 911 can’t be the only car anyone’s ever wanted to carry on their shoulders. Despite my searching, however, I couldn’t find another bag with a similar slant. Not a Dodge Challenger backpack, or a Tesla-shaped backpack, or an angry Lamborghini backpack. From what I can tell, this appears to be a purely Porsche-centric affair. There are, unsurprisingly, a number of backpacks with the same product photos listed on the site. AliExpressAnyway, I know back-to-school season is kicking off, but nobody should order the “Camping Bag Men’s backpacks Tactical backpack Women’s bag Backpack backpack school,” especially not for $136. That said, if you assess the risks and decide to anyway, I 1) can’t stop you and 2) thank you for your bravery. Please share a photo of whatever you receive. It could be the bag pictured, or a printed picture of it, or a lawn chair, or nothing. You never really know with AliExpress, and that’s part of the fun. Got tips? Send ’em to [email protected]

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links. While technology has made life more complicated than ever, it's also arguably better in many regards. So too is the case for engine building, where horsepower per cubic inch (or liter) has far surpassed anything from the peak of the muscle car era. That's not to mention better fuel economy, fewer harmful emissions, and a modern engine's ability to last well over 100,000 miles without any perceptible wear. However, achieving those accomplishments also requires a more stringent machining process. Once upon a time, if an engine's bore was sized correctly, well-rounded, and straight, then that was good enough to throw in some pistons. Upon startup, the piston rings would handle any final smoothing tasks and remove tiny aberrations from the cylinder walls during the new car break-in process. That's why, historically, a vehicle's first oil change interval was shorter than usual -- to quickly remove excess metal particles resulting from break-in. Fast-forward to the present when many engine builders give their cylinders the crosshatch treatment as a final step in machining the engine block. Crosshatching is just what it sounds like, a multitude of scratches cut into the cylinder walls. Think of a number sign (#) turned at an angle and repeated hundreds of times. The choreographed scratches from crosshatching help to retain the proper amount of oil on the cylinder walls for lubrication, while also providing a good surface for the piston rings to seal to for building compression. Read more: Call Me A Luddite, But These Modern Features Only Seem To Make Cars Worse Get Yourself A Dingle BallA view inside engine cylinders showing crosshatch pattern - Decimal Tenths/YouTubeWhen performing crosshatching, both the depth and angle of the crosshatching are variable and too much or too little of either won't yield good results. Crosshatch angles that are too shallow -- in other words, too horizontal -- allow too much oil to accumulate on the cylinder walls, which could be one reason why your car is burning oil. Shallow crosshatch angles can also prevent the piston rings from rotating in their grooves, a process which sheds heat. On the other hand, crosshatching that's too steep, or vertical, will permit engine oil to drain down the cylinder walls too quickly, hampering proper lubrication. As one might imagine, too little oil in this critical area will lead to rapid piston ring wear. So what is the proper angle? Car manufacturers and the makers of piston rings alike recommend anywhere from 27 to 45 degrees from horizontal. Proper angle notwithstanding, grooves which are cut too deep or wide will result in both high oil consumption and piston ring wear. Obviously, owners don't have any say in how automakers machine their vehicles' engine blocks. However, if your vehicle is reaching the point where rebuilding the existing engine or swapping it for a remanufactured unit is in the cards, you or your mechanic can research the rebuilder's crosshatching chops. Also, products exist that allow shadetree mechanics to hone to perfection. One popular model fits in a regular drill chuck and is called the flex-hone, which some gearheads affectionately call dingle balls. That sounds like something dirty, but it's actually a poke at the dozens of silicon carbide globules that comprise the tool. Want more like this? You likely had one of two reactions when you read "4L60E." It was either a slight shrug as you vaguely remembered that you had a 4L60E in your reliable, daily-driven V6 Firebird with 150,000 miles, or it was seething GM-aimed anger as you had flashbacks to your '96 Impala SS's 4L60E with an inability to shift to third. The internet is filled with forums, threads, and videos complaining that the 4L60E is a weak, problematic, pale shadow of the burlier 4L80E, or is a perfectly fine, serviceable transmission that only experiences problems when people forget to change their transmission fluid or put too much power through it. There are areas where the detractors and the supporters have to begrudgingly shake hands and mutter, "Good point," though. 4L60E haters will note that the transmission has some common issues, and they can be crippling. 3-4 clutch packs can burn out prematurely, the drive shell can break, and solenoid issues can affect shifting. 4L60E apologists will retort that most 4L60E issues can be solved by proper maintenance and never towing in overdrive. Now, one major issue with the 4L60E's reputation could be its 360 lb-ft torque rating. That's not so much of a problem in and of itself, but this transmission is in plenty of GM products with LT1 and LS1 V8s, which can make around 330 lb-ft of torque and 350 lb-ft of torque, respectively. So, putting a transmission with a torque capacity at or barely above the engine's peak torque in a performance vehicle may be asking for trouble. It's true, the best Corvette is a cheap Corvette, but a Corvette that only shifts to first gear because of a faulty 4L60E will get more cheap in a hurry. Read more: These Are The Worst Transmission Recalls Of The Last 5 Years What The Forking Family Tree Of GM Transmissions Is Going On HereA General Motors Turbo Hydra-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission at the National Holden Motor Museum in Australia - OSX/Public domain, via Wikimedia CommonsThe 4L60E is a direct descendant of the 700R4 and part of the Turbo-Hydromatic branch, which is based on a 1920s design that essentially kicked off the automatic-transmission revolution. Well, the 4L60E essentially is a 700R4, just with electronic controls instead of mechanical controls for changing gears. Yes, there's a 4L60 without the E, and it is a 700R4 that went to the courthouse and filled out a Petition for Name Change. The 4L60E first appeared in trucks, SUVs, and vans in 1993 and in passenger cars in 1994. The 700R4/4L60/4L60E was the final goodnight kiss to the long-serving TH350 (1969-1984), which went to a farm, where it will be very happy. As great as the TH350 was, it didn't have a fuel-efficiency boosting overdrive or a heat-reducing lock-up torque converter. Here's the rub. As far as we can tell, GM never put the TH350 behind big blocks or high-powered small blocks that stretched its torque limit of 350 lb-ft. If you wanted, say, a 1971 Camaro with an LT-1 or 402 (the real displacement of the "396" in the '70s) and an automatic, you had to check RPO M40 for the TH400, which could take up to 450 lb-ft. If you ordered an L48 350, then you could get the M38 (TH350). That '71 L48 had a gross torque rating of 360 lb-ft, but by 1972, GM reported the SAE net figure, which was a more realistic 300 lb-ft, well within the capacity of the TH350. Basically, the TH350 generally didn't have to withstand the punishment of timespace folding, torque-laden V8s. But the 4L60E endured the trauma of V8s that pushed it to the brink of its capacity. Can you blame the transmission for that? Where The 4L60E Will Give You HeadachesOkay, enough devil's advocate for the 4L60E. Transmission Bench has a fantastic YouTube video that discusses the transmission's most common issues and their symptoms. Can't shift to third gear? It's likely the 3-4 clutch pack is burned up because the piston's rubber seals have gone bad. Is first gear the only one that engages? You probably have a broken drive shell. Does it shift harshly from first to second gear? The TCC regulator valve is likely worn out. Another frequent issue with 4L60Es is that their solenoids go bad. When this happens, shifts can become harsh or erratic. As for other members of the four-speed auto family, there's the 4L65E, which is what the 4L60E morphed into in 2001. GM upgraded the four-pinion carrier to a five-pinion version, improving the torque capacity. In trucks, the rating was 380 lb-ft, and in cars such as the 2005 Corvette, the torque rating was 400 lb-ft. The 4L70E is largely a 4L65E with a pump-mounted speed sensor and an upgraded torque capacity of 430 lb-ft, as per a 2005 New Product Announcement from GM. That transmission was put into vehicles such as the Chevy Trailblazer SS (400 lb-ft of torque) and Saab 9-7X Aero (a Trailblazer SS with plastic surgery and 395 lb-ft of torque). The 4L80E is the brawny big sibling that can handle 440 lb-ft of torque and gives wedgies to the 4L60E. Unfortunately for torquey performance car fanatics, GM only put the 4L80E in vans, trucks, and the Hummer H1. So if you want to drop $12,500 on a 1996 Chevy Impala SS and upgrade it to a 383 like Callaway did in the '90s, ripping out the 4L60E and swapping in a 4L80E is tough but doable. Want more like this? Read the full story on Backfire News Ferrari Sticks With VasseurIn a move most are applauding, Scuderia Ferrari has offered team principal Fred Vasseur a multi-year contract. It shows the Formula One team has confidence in the man’s leadership, even though we’re in the midst of a season that isn’t going so well. In the meantime, George Russell says he doesn’t want to sign a long term contract. That’s been the main point critics are hammering home with this announcement. After all, even fans want to point the finger at someone when the team isn’t on top. While some will blame Lewis Hamilton, others have chosen Vasseur as their scapegoat. But Vasser has only been with Ferrari since the 2023 season. Last year, the team was only 14 points behind McLaren. To base decisions simply on the current season is shortsighted and foolish. Besides, Ferrari is in second place, so it’s not exactly falling behind the pack. It seems Ferrari envisions building something truly great with Vasseur at the helm. An official statement released by the team makes that abundantly clear: “Renewing Fred’s contract reflects our determination to build on the foundations laid so far. His ability to lead under pressure, embrace innovation, and pursue performance aligns fully with Ferrari’s values and long-term ambitions.” “Under Fred’s leadership, Scuderia Ferrari HP is united, focused, and committed to continuous improvement. The trust placed in him reflects the team’s confidence in its strategic direction and reinforces a shared determination to deliver the results that Ferrari’s fans, drivers, and team members expect and deserve.” The announcement that Vasseur was getting his contract renewed for multiple years came right before the Hungarian Grand Prix. Vasseur led Sauber before he came over to Ferrari. He was also the team principal for Renault and has experience leading teams for Formula 3, GP2, and GP3. Image via Scuderia Ferrari HP

As the never-ending onslaught of unprecedented events continues, the world is facing extreme temperatures and natural disasters at an accelerated rate. Floods have ravaged regions across the country, and one of the scariest places to be in a flash flood is in a car. Parts of Texas and New York were devastated by floods early last month, but in a rare bit of good news, General Motors' OnStar services facilitated the rescue of multiple drivers caught in dangerous situations. OnStar has recently been in hot water for allegedly selling driver data, but its services can still potentially be lifesaving. OnStar has a program called Crisis Mode that provides free emergency services to anyone in an OnStar-equipped GM vehicle in a region that's experiencing a crisis. GM reports that its OnStar services directly supported a dozen successful rescue operations in the recent floods, and it answered over 4,000 crisis calls in total. In most cases, OnStar advisors directed drivers to safe evacuation routes and avoided dangerous routes, as well as offering free Wi-Fi support to allow owners to contact their loved ones. Driving through flood waters is extremely risky; according to the National Weather Service, it can take as little as 12 inches of rushing water to sweep a vehicle away. Oftentimes, drivers will attempt to drive through flooded areas, and their car will die at a deep spot trapping them inside or stranding them on top of their vehicle. GM shared two anecdotes about how OnStar facilitated the rescue of two stranded parties — one disabled elderly couple in Texas, and a rideshare driver in New York who had a young couple and their three-month-old baby in the car. Read more: These Are The Cars You Love Getting As Ubers And Lyfts Expert Advice And Counseling Can Be A Lifesaver In Times Of CrisisFirefighters rescue a couple after their car got stuck in deep floodwaters on November 22, 2024 in Windsor, California. A powerful atmospheric river is bringing heavy rains and wind to the San Francisco Bay Area for the third straight day and is expected to rain through the weekend. - Justin Sullivan/Getty ImagesThe elderly Texas couple sent out an emergency call to OnStar when they got stuck in a flood in their vehicle, with water rising inside their car and their car moving in the current of the floodwater. OnStar emergency advisor Tiarra Duncan sent their precise location to local public safety teams and helped the couple stay safe until fire rescuers arrived to help them to safety. The rideshare driver and their passengers got stranded in rising floodwaters under an overpass in New York and called OnStar for help. OnStar emergency advisor Barb Lucas kept the group calm while their team contacted local public safety and shared their precise location. Lucas instructed the group to evacuate the vehicle and walk to high water and was able to convince the reluctant rideshare driver to temporarily abandon their vehicle to get to safety. In order to avoid losing contact, Lucas called the driver's cell phone to stay in contact, and once the floodwaters receded, she coordinated roadside assistance to retrieve the driver's vehicle. It's admirable that GM offers free use of its various OnStar services to owners in times of crisis, and these latest disasters show what a beneficial resource it can be for some drivers. If your area is experiencing flooding, it's still safest to avoid driving on flooded roads whenever possible to prevent life-threatening situations. Want more like this? The MLB Speedway Classic between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds set the all-time regular-season single-game attendance record on Saturday with 91,032 tickets sold for the event at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. With that figure, the event surpassed the crowd of 84,587 who were in attendance to see Cleveland host the New York Yankees at Municipal Stadium on Sept. 12, 1954. However, Saturday's game was postponed after a 2 1/2-hour rain delay and resumed on Sunday. Under MLB rules, a game does not become official until after five innings have been completed. An official attendance figure for the event was not announced by Major League Baseball, but a noticeably lesser amount of fans returned to the Speedway on Sunday. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] On the FOX broadcast, John Smoltz estimated that half of the fans ("maybe three-quarters") from Saturday returned to Bristol on Sunday, but that was obviously not an official count. According to MLB, fans from the U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, nine countries and four continents purchased tickets for the game at Bristol Motor Speedway. Pregame festivities included a flyover by four U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets from Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach and a ceremonial first pitch featuring Hall of Famers Chipper Jones and Johnny Bench. Braves won Speedway Classic, 4-2Reliever Austin Cox ended up starting the game after a 2 1/2-hour rain delay scratched Spencer Strider from pitching for the Braves. The Reds took a 1-0 lead on an Austin Hays RBI single when the game was postponed after the first inning. The game resumed on Sunday with Elly De La Cruz and Hays stealing bases. De La Cruz was tagged out at home attempting to score on a sharp Miguel Andujar grounder to third base. However, Atlanta third baseman Austin Riley appeared to hurt himself while stretching to make the tag. He left the game with what the Braves announced as lower abdominal pain. Riley just returned from the injured list with a lower abdominal strain, so it’s possible he re-aggravated that injury. Eli White gave Atlanta the lead in the top of the second with a 3-run homer off a high changeup from Brent Suter. Cincinnati closed the margin to 3-2 on a sacrifice fly following Hurston Waldrep loaded the bases on two walks and a single. However, White restored Atlanta's 2-run lead with his second homer of the game in the seventh inning, taking Scott Barlow deep. As the Braves' social media account put it, White is the only MLB player to ever hit two home runs in the state of Tennessee. The Reds put the tying run on base in the ninth with Braves closer Raisel Iglesias giving up consecutive singles to TJ Friedl and Matt McLain. But Iglesias retired the next three batters to close out the win for Atlanta. The Braves improved to 47-63, while Cincinnati dropped to 58-54, 3.5 games behind the San Diego Padres for the National League's final wild-card playoff berth. Sixth time MLB has had 80,000-plus for a regular-season gameThe field for the MLB Speedway Classic was covered up during a rain delay on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025. (AP Photo/George Walker IV) (ASSOCIATED PRESS)Only five other games in MLB regular-season history have broken the 80,000 attendance mark, according to the Hall of Fame, with the first happening on Sept. 9, 1928, during a doubleheader between the Philadelphia Athletics and New York Yankees. The most recent occurrence was in 1993, when 80,277 watched the Colorado Rockies play their first game at Mile High Stadium in Denver. As for the postseason single-game attendance record, that is owned by the Los Angeles Dodgers. During the 1959 World Series, 92,706 packed Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to watch the Dodgers play the Chicago White Sox in Game 5.

Mimi Rhodes didn’t win the Women’s British Open on Sunday afternoon at Royal Porthcawl, but she easily walked away with the shot of the tournament. Rhodes, who finished T19 in the major championship in Wales on Sunday, actually banked in a hole-in-one at the par-3 fifth. She landed her tee shot on the front of the green, and it bounced up perfectly toward the cup. But, instead of rolling right past the hole like it was on track to, Rhodes’ ball bounced off of Steph Kyriacou’s ball and into the hole for the ace. Just watch: Kyriacou, who actually hit her first hole-in-one on the LPGA Tour on Friday, was just inches away from an ace herself. “I wasn't expecting it to go in, so I just picked up my tee, and I heard everyone going crazy,” Rhodes said. “Yeah, extra loud than usual, so I knew something had happened. Then we just walked up to the green and it was in the hole. “I had no idea it hit Steph's ball until I just saw the video, so that's unbelievable.” Rhodes ended up shooting a 2-over 74 on Sunday. She finished at 1-under on the week at T19. The 23-year-old has won three times on the Ladies European Tour in her career, most recently at the Dutch Ladies Open in May. Miyu Yamashita wins Women’s British OpenMiyu Yamashita held on and fended off a late push from Charley Hull on Sunday to claim the first major championship of her career. Yamashita posted a 2-under 70 in her final round on Sunday to grab the two-shot win in Wales. She went bogey-free through her first 16 holes of the day, and made the turn at 3-under, before her lone slip with a bogey at the 17th. But by that point, Hull was already in the clubhouse and was too far back. Yamashita ended the week at 11-under, two shots ahead of Hull and Minami Katsu in second. Hull started the day three shots off the lead, but made five birdies in her first 14 holes of the final round to get right in the mix. But she stalled out after a pair of back-to-back bogeys down the stretch. Yamashita, who turned 24 on Saturday, is in her rookie season on the LPGA Tour and had yet to win on the circuit until Sunday, though she’s now recorded seven top-10 finishes this year. The win also earned her a record $1.46 million check. “To win such a historic tournament in front of all these amazing fans is such an incredible feeling, and to have my family around me to have so much support from everyone here is just amazing,” she said. “To be part of such a moment in history is something very, very special.”

Nearly four months after her last appearance, and nearly a year since her last NWSL goal, Trinity Rodman is back. The 23-year-old forward has been out since April while recovering from an ongoing back injury. But in an emotional return on Sunday, she played hero for the Washington Spirit, scoring a goal in stoppage to send the Spirit over the Portland Thorns. Rodman came on in the 75th minute, earning a huge cheer from the crowd at Audi Field. And it didn't take long for her to make a difference: In the 92nd minute, Croix Bethune sent the ball to Rodman with wild back-leg pass, and Rodman smashed it home to send the Spirit ahead. Rodman was immediately emotional after the goal, holding her hands to her face and wiping away tears before being rushed by her team. That emotion continued after the game, as Rodman spoke on how the return felt following a long and frustrating recovery. "That was just the hardest thing I've had to go through, with injury and everything," Rodman said postgame, while visibly emotional. Rodman has only played in four games this season prior to Sunday, with her most recent appearance coming on April 12. But it's also been a while since Rodman was able to bury a goal like that: Sunday's goal was Rodman's first since Sept. 15, 2024. This story will be updated.

NFL training camp season is officially upon us, which means holdout/hold-in season is too as players seek new contracts. One day after Terry McLaurin reportedly requested a trade from the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons followed suit. Parsons posted his desire for a trade via a long social media post, which included details about how contract negotiations with the Cowboys turned sour in the last few months. Owner Jerry Jones said he has no plans on trading Parsons when talking to the media on Saturday. Jones said he isn't fazed by the trade request and sees it a merely a negotiating tactic. "That's negotiation," Jones told reporters. "I've heard that so many times in my 30 years in the NFL." Like Parsons, McLaurin has reported to training camp but has sat out practices with an injury. But with no new deal in place, McLaurin has taken things to the next level. The Commanders reportedly don't plan to fulfill the star receiver's trade request, but things are getting tense for these two star players and their respective clubs. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] What other big names either haven't reported or aren't taking full part in practice while seeking a new contract? Are their situations roiling or boiling? Here's the latest, where we rank each situation by the attention and rancor from both sides. Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah ParsonsAs Parsons put his cards on the table with a trade request, it's hard to know if this is just another negotiating tactic or if he is truly fed up. Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein reported that a major sticking point is owner Jerry Jones believing he already made a verbal deal with Parsons a few months ago. Parsons said his agent will work out a deal. The Cowboys are no strangers to drawn-out contract talks, but the level of acrimony here only seems to be growing. Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurinMcLaurin reported to the Commanders on Sunday morning, but his subsequent trade request indicated negotiations aren't going well. The two sides have not made progress on a new deal, ESPN reported. Is this trade request simply a tactic to pressure Washington, or is it real? Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher Trey HendricksonHendrickson reporting to camp on Wednesday by no means the situation has simmered much. If anything, it seems like the prudent play considering he's being fined $50,000 a day for each practice he misses. It doesn't change the fact that Hendrickson went gloriously passive-aggressive and posted about being in Florida as camp opened last week, nor that he called a recent Bengals offer "atrociously, atrociously low." This is still a big one to monitor. Buffalo Bills RB James CookdCook ha been practicing throughout camp until he missed Sunday's session for an undisclosed reason. When asked why he sat out, he told one reporter: "business." Cook has talked openly about his desire for a new contract. "I deserve what I want," he said last month. We'll see if this escalates. Green Bay Packers OL Elgton JenkinsJenkins said he missed OTAs for a "family matter" and not his contract situation. He was activated off the NFI list last week and practiced Monday, including playing center and snapping to Jordan Love. Green Bay just paid offensive lineman Zach Tom record-setting signing bonus money as part of his new contract. Will Jenkins get one too? And how will his move from guard to center affect that deal? San Francisco 49ers WR Jauan JenningsJennings has been officially practicing with the 49ers, which indicates he's not planning to hold in, though he has missed several practices with a calf injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan disputed the report that Jennings had asked for a trade if he didn't get a contract extension. The injury adds an interesting wrinkle as Jennings seeks an extension.

Emma Meesseman was rusty to start on Sunday in her first WNBA game since 2022. But it didn't matter for the New York Liberty, who rolled to an 87-78 win over the Connecticut Sun to snap a four-game losing streak. Sabrina Ionescu paced the win with a sizzling effort that produced 16 points in the first quarter and 20 by the break. She finished with a season-high 36 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for her fifth 30-plus point game of the season. Jonquel Jones added 21 points, nine rebounds four assists and two steals. The Liberty played a fourth-straight game without injured All-Star Breanna Stewart. Meesseman starts slow, finds pace after halftimeThe focus Sunday started on two-time All-Star and former Finals MVP Emma Meesseman, who played in her first WNBA game since 2022. Meesseman had since played overseas before signing with the Liberty on July 21, a transaction that further bolstered a star-laden roster seeking to secure the team's second straight WNBA championship. Meesseman sat New York's first six games since joining the team as the Liberty stumbled to a 2-4 start out of the All-Star break. But she was in the starting lineup Sunday as New York looked to snap its skid against a five-win Sun team with the worst record in the league. The Liberty immediately got Meesseman involved with a look inside on their first possession. But she missed a layup on the game's first field-goal attempt, then missed a floater in the lane moments later en route to a scoreless first half without another field-goal attempt. But Meesseman found her rhythm after halftime with an and-1 layup and made free throw for her first WNBA points since 2022 that extended New York's lead to 52-43. She finished with 11 points and three assists while shooting 3 of 7 from the field in 17 minutes. It added up to an encouraging start to her Liberty career as New York looks to re-establish itself as a championship favorite. This story will be updated.

I didn't expect a brief game about flies to make me emotional. But when I finished Time Flies, I nearly began to cry. Time Flies initially seems very silly. You play as a little buzzing fly that has to try and accomplish a bucket list of tasks before it, well, kicks the bucket, something that happens in a matter of seconds. The tasks are vague, with titles like "Just Roll with It" or "Meet Your Biggest Fan," and the goal of the game is to zip around each level, generally cause mischief to complete the tasks, and finish an entire stage's bucket list to move on to the next one. (Naturally, the last task of each list involves dying in some way … Read the full story at The Verge.

The original Nintendo Switch, which has cost $299.99 in the US since its release in 2017, is now priced at $339.99 on Nintendo’s online store. Other first-gen Switch models are now more expensive, too, with the Switch OLED going from $349.99 to $399.99, and the Switch Lite increasing from $199.99 to $229.99. Nintendo said on Friday that its decision to raise the price was “based on market conditions,” just after implementing a similar new set of prices in Canada on August 1st. The US announcement came just one day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order that will impose new “reciprocal” tariffs on a range of countries. Trump’s growing list of tariffs now includes a 20 percent levy on products imported from Vietnam, where Nintendo has transferred most of its production. Nintendo also issued $10 price increases for the Alarmo and Switch 1 Joy-Cons, which now cost $109.99 and $89.99, respectively. Prices aren’t changing for the Switch 2 console, as well as Switch and Switch 2 games, whether physical or digital. With the price increase, the Switch OLED is now only slightly less expensive than the $449.99 Switch 2 (which doesn’t have an OLED display). The Switch 2 has been a massive hit so far, selling over 6 million units since launch despite Nintendo struggling to keep up with demand.

Fixing my eroded attention span has been a journey. Brick has sort of helped. "We need to talk." Nobody likes to hear those words from their spouse. Especially when it's delivered in a grave tone as you rot on a couch in a grubby blankie, staring like a zombie while doomscrolling. "Wut?" I said, very intelligently. What came next was a compassionate but firm speech about how I was in dire need of an intervention. My attention span, my spouse said, was utterly shot to hell. They'd just asked my opinion about something happening on the TV show we were watching. I hadn't heard them. At all. Apparently, they'd repeated the question three times. Instead, I'd been engrossed in… actually, I couldn't tell you. "You have … Read the full story at The Verge.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Smartwatch is on sale starting at $299.99 ($50 off). If you’re looking to upgrade an older Android smartwatch, or want to give wearables a try for the first time, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8 is a compelling choice. It has a new design, lets you access Google’s Gemini AI from your wrist, and has a handful of new health and wellness features. It launched on July 25th, but you can already get the 40mm model on sale for $299.99 ($50 off) from Samsung. Amazon has the watch for full price, but is offering a $50 promotional credit toward a future purchase if you use the code APSUE5MBXB6Y at checkout. Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Samsung’s latest smartwatch features a new squircle design, Gemini, and some new health features like an Antioxidant Index and Running Coach. Where to Buy: $349.99 $299.99 at Samsung (40mm) $429.99 $379.99 at Samsung (44mm) $349.99 $299.99 at Amazon (40mm With Code APSUE5MBXB6Y) The Galaxy Watch 8 is squircle shaped, which may be divisive, but allows it to lay flatter and Verge reporter Victoria Song found it fit more more comfortably on her wrist in her review. The change also let Samsung make the watch thinner than the Galaxy Watch 7, and yet we still found it can still last more than a day on a charge. While it’s not a huge departure from its predecessor, it could be a good upgrade for anyone with a Galaxy Watch 5 or below, and Samsung’s new discount counteracts the $50 price increase means you’re not paying any more than the Galaxy Watch 7 cost at launch. If you’ve gotten used to Google Gemini on your smartphone or computer, the Galaxy Watch 8 will let you access it from your wrist – we created playlists, checked the weather, and have previously asked Gemini whether it’s necessary to scrub a sweet potato before peeling it. On the health and wellness side, the Galaxy Watch 8 can track steps, your heart rate, blood oxygen level, steps, and activity. If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone, you use the smartwatch to take an EKG or detect sleep apnea. A new feature called Running Coach will put you through a 12-minute run test, give you a grade from one through 10, and create a workout program based on your performance. It also includes sensors designed to detect whether you’re eating enough fruits and vegetables, but we found it can be fooled by colorful objects, including a Cheeze-It. The Galaxy Watch 8 is also available in a 44mm size, and that model is also on sale for $379.99 ($50 off) from Samsung. Three more great deals If you need a new wireless controller to pair with your Nintendo Switch 2, Gamesir’s Super Nova is $39.99 ($10 off) at Best Buy. The gamepad has a long list of features you might not expect given its price, including drift-resistant Hall Effect joysticks and two-stage Hall Effect triggers, a pair of customizable back buttons, removable face buttons that let you switch between an Xbox and Nintendo Switch layout, built-in gyroscope, RGB lights, and a 1000hz polling rate. It supports wireless connectivity via Bluetooth or an included 2.4GHz adapter, and can be used as a wired controller using a USB-C cable. These connectivity options make it compatible with both generations of Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS and Android devices. JBL’s Tour Pro 3 earbuds are currently around $249.95 ($80 off) at Amazon and Best Buy. I’ve tested the earbuds, and was impressed with their comfort, audio quality, active noise cancellation performance, and battery life. The buds are great on their own, but they come in a charging case with a 1.57-inch touchscreen. You can use the display to switch between listening modes, adjust your volume, and check the earbuds’ battery without reaching for your phone. The case can also be used as a USB-C audio receiver, so you can listen to music from a wired source (like an airplane’s entertainment system) on the earbuds. Want a charger with some personality? Ugreen’s Uno 30 Watt Charger is around $17.99 at Amazon and from Ugreen, an all-time low price. It has one USB-C port, which is fast enough to charge an iPhone 15’s battery from zero to 60 percent in half an hour. An LED screen on its front side shows different pixelated faces when it’s currently charging your device, and when it’s done. It’s a nice touch that lets you know when your device is ready to be unplugged at a glance, and shouldn’t impact its performance.
