Well, that's exactly what one pastor in Erie, Pennsylvania, allegedly did. Rev. Ross R. Miceli is accused of fabricating the name of the Corvette raffle winner, as well as the winners of other smaller prizes. Now, the Erie County District Attorney's Office is investigating the St. Jude the Apostle Church Reverand, alleging that he rigged the Corvette raffle, tampered with its records and even committed theft, according to the Erie Times-News. Miceli admitted to moving money from the car raffle account to another account, claiming this other account — under the church's name — was interest-bearing. It wasn't just the Corvette raffle, though. He also reportedly made up some of the winners for $500 prizes that were offered. During an interview with detectives, the 42-year-old admitted to choosing the $500 winners who were all family friends or his favorite parishioners. Its goal was to sell 9,999 tickets at $50 a pop to hopefully raise about $500,000, according to the Erie Times-News. The grand prize was the aforementioned Corvette Convertible 1LT, but there were other smaller prizes that led up to the Christmas Eve Corvette drawing. Ticket holders were assigned random numbers via the computer, and the four-digit number on the winning ticket had to match the winning number in that evening's Pick 4 Pennsylvania Lottery drawing. The number drawn, 5851, was assigned to Martin Anderson of Detroit. He was named the winner on the raffle's Facebook page and decided to take the $50,000 cash prize rather than the convertible. There was just one issue: Anderson never bought a ticket. So, not only is he lame for taking the money, he's a cheat (allegedly)! Surprise, surprise. The tartan hand grips on the steering wheel are a particularly eclectic choice, but it works. The latter material is used for steering wheel, center console, and other switchgear, with its finest application in the gear shifter, milled from a single block. The new law makes wrong-way driving an “aggravating factor” for driving while intoxicated in New Hampshire, meaning it leads to more severe penalties than a typical DWI. (Getty Images) Drunken drivers who travel the wrong way down New Hampshire roads will face steeper penalties under a new state law. Gov. Kelly Ayotte signed House Bill 776, which was sponsored by state Rep. Terry Roy, into law last week, which makes wrong-way driving an “aggravating factor” for driving while intoxicated in New Hampshire, meaning it leads to more severe penalties than a typical DWI. A person convicted of aggravated DWI faces a class A misdemeanor offense that comes with a fine of at least $750, 17 days or more in jail — 12 of which may be suspended but at least five must be served — and license suspension for at least 18 months, under state law. If the person causes a serious accident in the process, the conviction increases to a class B felony, with a fine of $1,000 or more and 35 or more days in jail (21 of those may be suspended; the other 14 must be served). Those convicted on a regular DWI charge on first offense face a class B misdemeanor, a fine of just $500, and a shorter license suspension. Those convicted of aggravated DWI may also have a Breathalyzer device installed in their car’s ignition. Lt. Chris Storm of the New Hampshire State Police told state senators in April that wrong-way driving is a big problem in the state and that law enforcement receives reports of it nearly every day. The law also has an unrelated provision that names the Virginia opossum the state marsupial of New Hampshire. Any Virginia opossums found in New Hampshire are now to be known as “New Hampshire opossums” under state law. Initial filings for unemployment benefits in Illinois dropped last week compared with the week prior, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday. New jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs, fell to 10,013 in the week ending August 2, down from 10,116 the week before, the Labor Department said. U.S. unemployment claims rose to 226,000 last week, up 7,000 claims from 219,000 the week prior on a seasonally adjusted basis. Maine saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims jumping by 43.6%. Vermont, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage drop in new claims, with claims dropping by 47.9%. Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Wildlife experts said a mystery animal caught on camera in northeast Kansas is not a bear -- but they disagree about what it might actually be. A Shawnee Heights resident captured a photo of an animal spotted in their driveway Saturday and, after consulting Google Images, suspected it might be a black bear. Tracey Henderson, the northern carnivore keeper at the Topeka Zoo, told WIBW-TV the chances of a bear being in northeast Kansas are "almost zero." "I'm leaning more towards coyote," Henderson said. "I could see more understandably by the Colorado border, but I would say absolutely not." Dennis Dinwiddie, the zoo's conservation director, agreed the animal in the photo is not a bear. "Black bears, for example, will be significantly larger," he said. "Even the cubs would be significantly larger than that photograph. They can be up to several hundred pounds." The zookeepers pointed out black bears are not native to the area. "The last confirmed sighting of a black bear in Kansas was in 2021," Dinwiddie said, adding that the incident occurred much further south than Shawnee Heights. Matt Peek, a wildlife biologist with the Kansas Wildlife and Parks department, also said the animal in the photo is not a bear, but he had a different idea of what it might actually be. "This is a raccoon," he said. Another mystery animal suspected to be a raccoon was caught on camera in Pueblo, Colo., in April. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials reviewed the footage in an attempt to identify the mystery creature. "We think this animal might be a raccoon with mange," a CPW representative said. Half a dozen soldiers at a Georgia army base have been awarded medals for tackling an armed assailant accused of shooting five people and then giving aid to their wounded colleagues, three of whom have now been released from hospital. Sgt Quornelius Radford, 28, who was assigned to Fort Stewart, is accused of using a personal handgun to shoot five of his fellow soldiers on Wednesday before he was quickly tackled by other troops. Army officials would not speculate about a motive. “The fast action of these soldiers under stress and under trauma and under fire absolutely saved lives from being lost,” the army secretary, Dan Driscoll, said at a news briefing on Thursday morning. “One of the soldiers tackled the person, so just think about this – they were unarmed and ran at and tackled an armed person who they knew was actively shooting their buddies, their colleagues, their fellow soldiers. Four other soldiers tended to the wounded, according to Driscoll. One of them, Staff Sgt Melissa Taylor, said she was in her office when she heard a fellow soldier “yelling that a gunshot went off”. After peering into the hallway and seeing smoke, she noticed a soldier lying on the ground. “I immediately sprinted over to the soldier and started rendering aid. He had been shot. And so I was rendering aid to him, while the first sergeant started calling medics,” she told reporters. The six soldiers were awarded the meritorious service medal for “outstanding non-combat meritorious achievement or service” on Thursday. The shooting occurred in the 2nd armored brigade combat team area, where Radford worked. Brig Gen John Lubas, commander of the third infantry division and Fort Stewart-Hunter army airfield, said two of the five soldiers who were shot remain hospitalized, said in comments reported by CNN. “One solider remains as an in-patient at Winn Army [community hospital] right here on Fort Stewart. She’s doing very well, in high spirits,” Lubas said. “Of course, she’s got a little bit of a road to recovery. We’re hopeful she may be released as early as this weekend but that will just depend on how things heal up over the next couple of days.” Another solider who was more seriously injured is recovering at Savannah Memorial community hospital, about 45 miles from the base, the general said. “She’s got a little bit longer road to recovery. The doctors are very positive, but I think it’s going to take her a big longer to recover. They’re very hopeful she’s going to make a complete recovery.” The other three shooting survivors were released yesterday, according to Lubas. The Army has not identified them nor the nature of their injuries. According to the New York Times, Radford sent a text message to his aunt on Wednesday morning which said that he “loved everybody, and that he’ll be in a better place because he was about to go and do something”.
