Une femme de 92 ans a été transportée en état de choc ce mercredi 13 août au matin, à l'hôpital de la Timone, à Marseille. En cause: un tir de mortier d'artifice qui a provoqué une explosion dans un appartement du 9e arrondissement de la cité phocéenne, dont la déflagration a été entendue à plusieurs kilomètres à la ronde. Celle-ci a provoqué des dégâts sur la façade de l'immeuble, mais aussi à l'intérieur du logement de la nonagénaire. "Tous les meubles ont explosé dans la salle à manger, tout est cassé, les murs en cloison sont fissurés", selon Richard, le fils de la victime à BFMTV. Il raconte que "(s)a mère sortait à peine de son balcon après son petit-déjeuner". "Elle se dirigeait vers la porte d'entrée. Elle a eu énormément de chance!", poursuit-il à BFMTV. Une enquête ouverteLa victime n'a pas été physiquement blessée et est depuis sortie de l'hôpital. Sa famille a porté plainte. "C'est un tir de mortier d'artifice qui est à l'origine du sinistre, on ignore si c'est accidentel ou volontaire. L'objet a atterri sur le balcon.", expliquent à BFMTV les marins-pompiers. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Senate Bill 6, which aims to “protect unborn children,” passed the Texas Senate on Tuesday. SB 6 would prohibit the manufacture, distribution, mailing, transporting, delivery and prescribing of abortion-inducing pills, as well as allow private citizens in Texas to file suit against people or companies that manufacture or distribute abortion-inducing pills in the state. Abortion is already almost totally banned in Texas. The bill was filed by Sen. Brian Hughes, R-Tyler. A similar bill passed the Senate during the regular session; however, it died in the House. “The moms are victims here,” Hughes said. “What we will go after with SB 6 is the manufacturers and the distributors of these drugs that are making them for the purpose of illegal abortions.” RELATED | Lt. A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to restore millions of dollars in National Science Foundation grants it has withheld from the University of California, Los Angeles, saying they were made in violation of her earlier court ruling. U.S. District Judge Rita F. Lin ruled late Tuesday that the NSF must reinstate the research grants that were suspended for reasons she had already ruled “arbitrary and capricious,” and gave the administration until Aug. 19 to show compliance or explain why it hasn't restored the money. It was not immediately clear how much funding could be returned to UCLA. The school’s chancellor said last week that the Trump administration has pulled $584 million in federal grants from various federal agencies. The judge's ruling applies specifically to NSF grants. UCLA's money as been frozen as part of a wider pressure campaign targeting universities that Trump says are out of step with his political agenda. University of California researchers challenged the cuts as “abrupt and unexplained” and won a preliminary injunction in June from Lin, who ruled that the NSF and other agencies could not terminate grant funding without specifically explaining why. But on July 30, the NSF sent out a new round of letters that Lin described as “en masse, form letter funding cuts.” One said the awards “no longer effectuate program goals or agency priorities." Another cited allegations of racism, antisemitism and policies around transgender athletes at UCLA. It did not elaborate. The administration argued in a Tuesday hearing that the UCLA funding cuts were “suspensions” rather than “terminations.” Lin dismissed this as semantics. “NSF’s indefinite suspensions differ from a termination in name only,” and the reasons the agency provided are based on “the same type of deficient explanations as the original terminations,” she ruled. The university issued a brief statement praising the decision, saying that “restoration of National Science Foundation funds is critical to research the University of California performs on behalf of California and the Nation.” UCLA also faces a Trump administration demand to pay $1 billion to settle antisemitism allegations. A British outfit called Garagisti & Co. is making some waves this week with gorgeous renderings of its super-limited, super-expensive hypercar called the GP1. The design is supposed to be inspired by “icons of the ‘80s, ‘90s, and early 2000s,” and the spirit is all old-school sports driving awesomeness. Non-turbo V12, six-speed manual, rear-wheel drive, and an interior like a midcentury modern psychiatrist’s office. Or maybe I’m just projecting that last bit—because it looks like driving this thing would be deeply therapeutic after being bombarded by screens in any other modern vehicle. The car looks complete in these images, and looking at them on a small screen, I thought they were photos at first myself. But the company’s press release confirms that they are, in fact, digital renders. Garagisti & Co. states that the car is “now in advanced stages of engineering and production.” I’m guessing the company’s people wanted to roll out the idea to be part of the hypercar hype-wave that is Monterey Car Week, which is currently underway. Unfortunately, few of us will ever see one of these in person anywhere, let alone drive it, as the GP1’s creators are only planning to make 25 and charging over $3.3 million (£2.45 million, to be exact) each. Still, it’s a very pretty interior and exterior design that simultaneously looks unique while reminding me of a few different cars in the elite class of low-production performance machines. I see a lot of Ford GT, some Lamborghini, Lancia, some Ferrari … any elements look particularly familiar to you? Garagisti & Co. has some big-name supplier collaborators, like Brembo (brakes), Öhlins (suspension), and Xtrac (transmission). But the fact that it’s making a “completely new and bespoke” engine is exceptionally wild. And probably a big part of why the price is so high. I think it’s madness to make an entirely custom engine just for 25 cars—how the heck is anybody supposed to find parts for this in five years? Very cool, extremely impractical. I guess that’s what cars at this level are kind of all about, though. The V12 will have 6.6 liters of displacement, rev to 9,000 rpm, and claim 800 horsepower (and “over” 516 lb-ft of torque). Since the car is only supposed to weigh 2,200 pounds (dry), that should be enough juice to enter orbit. It’s not clear where the motor’s at in development, but conceptually, it sounds awesome. So does the ethos behind the whole project. “Our vision for Garagisti was born from a simple question,” said Garagisti & Co. co-founder Mario Escudero in a press release. “What if the golden age of analogue supercars never ended? What if icons like the Countach Evoluzione had sparked a lineage rather than a dead-end? What would the great cars of the ‘80s, ‘90s and early 2000s look like today if they’d evolved with new technology but kept their analogue soul? We brought together some of the best minds in the world and answered that question with our hands, our hearts, and our passion. London is an amazing city with enough rich culture and history to keep your average tourist busy for months, but there is another reason The Big Smoke draws so many eyes to its streets: the world-class car spotting. Not everyone is wild about the colorful traffic, however. Residents have been complaining about the noise, unsafe driving habits of owners and pollution produced by high-end rides for years and now, London's Metropolitan Police service is cracking down on daily supercar rallies, seizing millions of dollars worth of cars in just a 48 hour period. The police action against "anti-social" driving occurred over the weekend and involved 75 of the Met's Special Constabulary and Vehicle Enforcement Team, who partnered with the Motor Insurers' Bureau to identify car owners who were late on their insurance payments — or had none at all. The crackdown covered Hyde Park, Kensington and Chelsea, some of the highest of the high-class neighborhoods in London, which naturally resulted in a large amount of the vehicles seize being of the supercar variety. One notable seizure saw a pair of purple Lamborghinis from a pair of drivers, one of whom had only been in the country for two hours before losing their ostentatious ride. All told, the Met impounded 72 vehicles with an average cost of $125,000 a piece. This is not the case, as MIB points out. Uninsured driving is rampant in England if you believe MIB's number of one person every 20 minutes being impacted by uninsured or hit-and-run drivers. But it wasn't just insurance laws that got 72 cars, including a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and a Ferrari 296, thrown into the dock. Summers are unofficially known as "Supercar Season" in the British capital, as wealthy travelers brought their toys along for the ride, including some very beautiful and powerful vehicles. But while many of us could live on a racetrack or on the grounds of a Concourse d'Elegance day in, day out, the posh residents of London's swankiest zip codes have been battling the vehicular invasion for years. Past crackdowns took the form of excessive noise fines and special public place protection orders, which promised stiff penalties for drivers who revved engines or performed stunts in their vehicles. At big automotive events like Monterey Car Week or the major Barrett-Jackson sales it's not uncommon for automakers to auction off special versions of their cars for charity; sometimes this can be the first or last production unit of a specific model, or some sort of custom one-off spec designed just for the sale. Ferrari recently built an additional unit of its Daytona SP3 to benefit its own charity, which surely ticked off some of the existing owners who were promised their car would be one of 599, not one of 600. The latest automaker to get in on this trend is Rivian, and the American EV startup is doing it in a big way. Its design team came up with the R1S Pebble Beach, which is based on the new Quad variant that packs 1,025 horsepower. This one-off SUV not only has a unique color, wheels and upholstery, but it's even got special cork trim and a number of gradient finishes, all inspired by the Monterey Peninsula. This 2026 R1S Quad Pebble Beach is being auctioned off tonight at Hagerty's Broad Arrow auction — it's just too bad the proceed's are going to a charity fundraiser run by MrBeast. The company says the paint is meticulously applied in a four-stage process, and that it "shimmers with the depth that evokes the reflective qualities of liquid metal." I do think the paint looks quite nice — I own a gold car myself, so I've gotta be a fan of beige — and it seems like the color shifts a lot depending on the light conditions. Cooler are the 22-inch forged wheels that were also designed just for this car, featuring a three-tone finish. Rivian painted the body cladding, and the badges, window trim and other exterior accents are finished in Burnished Bronze, which is one of the three shades in the wheels along with the Monterey Silver. The brake calipers are painted the same Laguna Blue color as other R1 Quads. Rivian says the Pebble Beach car has unique exterior light animations, though it doesn't give any details. Inspired By The Sunset, TooInterior of the Rivian R1S Pebble Beach - RivianThere's a lot more special stuff going on inside. The company calls the color scheme Coastal Canvas, which pairs a tan headliner with off-white Pebble Stone Adventex upholstery, both colors that not offered on normal Rivians. The seats have a unique perforation pattern with an orange checkered center stripe, and the door panels have the same woven look. There are textiles made from a sustainable cork blend, and the wood trim is made from spalted oil ash wood, which has dark marbling created by a fungal infection when the tree was alive — chief designer Jeff Hammoud told MotorTrend wood like that would normally be rejected for a production model, but for a one-off like this it adds character. RivianBlue stitching and other bits tie in the brake calipers, but the real color is found on the speaker grilles, sisal floor mats, integrated flashlights and other accents, where Rivian applied a gradient finish inspired by the way the sun fades into the ocean. The ombre effect blends teal blue with a subtle gold and a bright orange-y red, which happen to also be the colors of the Rivian Adventure Department skunkworks crew — they're the ones who ran an R1T up Pikes Peak. Different methods like anodizing, dyeing and painting were used depending on the material to keep the gradient looking uniform across all the car's components. The car has no reserve applied to it, so whoever is the highest bidder will win. When Rivian first announced the one-off and related sale, it made no mention of where the money would go, but now we know that all proceeds will be donated to #TeamWater, which is a "creator-led crowdfunding campaign" that aims to provide two million people with access to clean water by raising $40 million. This fundraiser was started by YouTubers Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson and Mark Rober, following their previous collaborative fundraisers that aimed to plant trees and clean the oceans. Obviously it's great that this money will be going to charity, and access to clean water is something that everyone on Earth deserves, but really, MrBeast? The guy who's been in hot water for many of his past charitable acts and videos that border on exploitative, at the very least? #TeamWater says that all of its donations will go directly to WaterAid, a very real organization, but also to other unnamed "charitable partners." It would feel less icky if the proceeds from this sale went straight to WaterAid instead of going through MrBeast first, but hey, if more people do end up getting clean water because of this, I guess it's a win regardless. Memphis rapper FastCash CMoney, real name Cordney Smith, was killed in a reported shootout in Memphis early Sunday morning (Aug. 10), marking another tragic loss in the city’s rap community. On Sunday, police say they responded to reports of shots fired near Macaulay Drive and Macaulay Cove, where several homes were struck by gunfire. CMoney was later found dead at the intersection of Maritavia Street and Georgian Drive, about half a mile from the initial scene. Authorities confirm the investigation is active and ongoing. CMoney, one half of the rap duo FastCash Boyz, was just weeks away from completing his federal probation on Sept. 29. His legal troubles stemmed from a high-profile federal case in which he and 17 other members of the FastCash crew were convicted of Conspiracy to Commit Bank Fraud and Conspiracy to Possess and Attempt to Possess with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. Prosecutors said the group defrauded a bank of over $240,000 and conspired to move more than 100 kilos of marijuana. CMoney served an 18-month prison sentence before his release on probation. The FastCash Boyz gained regional recognition for their energetic street anthems and collaborations with other Memphis artists, but CMoney’s career was marred by the legal fallout from the federal case. His death comes as Memphis continues to grapple with gun violence that has claimed the lives of several prominent rap figures in recent years, including Young Dolph and Snootie Wild. AT&T will pay $177 million in a class action settlement related to separate alleged data breaches last year. In one incident, dated March 30, 2024, some customers' vulnerable data, including addresses, social security numbers, birthdates, passcodes, billing numbers and phone numbers were released on the dark web, according to a news release by Kroll Settlement Administration. The telecommunication company was also accused of an incident on July 12, 2024, where limited data was illegally downloaded. Some of the breached information included customers and other users associated with the account, as well as the numbers they interacted with. Here's what to know about the settlement. Tech: Despite data breach, controversy, these women say Tea app is indispensable Who is eligible for the settlement?Customers affected by the first data incident can claim up to $5,000 by providing materials for the documented loss cash payment option, according to information on the settlement website. Another alternative is a Tier 1 or Tier 2 cash payment. Those whose Social Security numbers were included in the March 30 data breach are eligible to file a claim for Tier 1, which is five times the amount of Tier 2. Those affected by the July 12 data breach could be eligible for a documented loss cash payment up to $2,500. Documented materials must be presented, according to the settlement website. The alternative is the Tier 3 cash payment option, which will be a share of the settlement after administration costs and claims are received. Customers impacted by both could receive up to $7,500. When is the claim deadline?Those eligible have to submit a claim online via the AT&T Data Incident Settlement Claim Form. The deadline to do that is Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025. Most people are soaking up the last days of summer — barbecues, beach trips, a little bit of “out of office” energy. But Democrats? They’re in no mood for lawn chairs and lemonade. They’re finally lacing up their gloves. Take California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who decided to fight fire with fire this week. He took to X and trolled President Trump in a post that looked like it could have come straight from Trump’s own Truth Social feed — caps lock and all — warning about Texas redistricting while mocking Trump’s style: DONALD TRUMP, THE LOWEST POLLING PRESIDENT IN RECENT HISTORY, THIS IS YOUR SECOND-TO-LAST WARNING!!! (THE NEXT ONE IS THE LAST ONE!). STAND DOWN NOW OR CALIFORNIA WILL COUNTER-STRIKE (LEGALLY!) TO DESTROY YOUR ILLEGAL CROOKED MAPS IN RED STATES. PRESS CONFERENCE COMING — HOSTED BY AMERICA’S FAVORITE GOVERNOR, GAVIN NEWSOM. FINAL WARNING NEXT. YOU WON’T LIKE IT!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. And then there’s former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, who put it— well, a little less delicately: “We’re in basketball game right now, if you’ll excuse the metaphor, where the refs have left the arena and the other side is just clobbering the s–t out of us, punching us in the face, kicking us in the n—ts, and we’re kind of throwing our hands up and we’re asking the crowd, the people of America, ‘hey do you see what’s going on here?! This is unfair, this isn’t the rules we agreed to play by,’ well who cares about the f–king rules right now? Punch back, kick back, dunk over their heads and win some f–king power!” So, yeah — Democrats are starting to fight back. And a lot of people are saying, “finally!” Don’t just take my word for it. A recent Associated Press poll found that about 15 percent of Democrats describe their leaders as “weak” or “apathetic.” After years of warning that Trump was “assaulting democracy,” some Democrats have decided the warning labels aren’t enough — it’s time for action. Axios reports Senate Democrats held more than 100 events in the first week of summer recess — town halls, hospital visits, small-business roundtables, food bank tours — all aimed at hammering Republican policies before the 2026 midterms. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer wants to localize the impact of what Trump and the GOP Congress are pushing: cuts to health care, tariffs, rising energy costs, and tax breaks for the wealthy. It’s exactly the kind of retail politics voters have been begging for — less D.C. bubble, more Main Street reality. Meanwhile, Republicans have been steering clear of town halls. Earlier this year, Rep. Richard Hudson, who runs the GOP’s House campaign arm, advised members to skip them entirely. Maybe that’s because when they do show up, the reception isn’t exactly warm. Just ask Nebraska Congressman Mike Flood, who got heckled last week when he tried to tout “the big beautiful bill” as the room screamed back at him, “Tax the rich! Tax the rich!” A Wall Street Journal poll shows 52 percent of Americans oppose that bill, a warning sign for Republicans heading into the midterms. So here’s the bottom line: If Democrats keep showing backbone, meeting voters where they are, and making the case that Trump’s policies hurt everyday Americans, they might actually turn 2026 into a comeback season. And if they don’t? Well, they’ll be back on the sidelines, wondering why the refs left the game in the first place.
