The Brief Esiyah Dixon Waheed was a passenger in a car that police say another driver hit head-on. Family members held a vigil and marched for justice Wednesday evening. Investigators say a 61-year-old man was the driver that struck the car. CAMDEN, NJ - A family and community are mourning the loss of 26-year-old Esiyah Dixon Waheed, who was killed in a crash while away at a church retreat in Missouri. What they're saying "I just want justice for my daughter. He stripped everything away from me. Everything," said a mother who is overcome with grief after losing her daughter. "My daughter wasn't just Esiyah. She was so much. From birth she was everything," said Mahasin Waheed Parker. Family, friends and community members joined her for a rally and march this evening in Camden. Parker says her 26-year-old daughter Esiyah Dixon Waheed was killed in a car crash around 1:30 the morning of July 24th while on a church retreat in Hannibal, Missouri. "She was in a car with a group of girls that were on the retreat with her, going to their destination and what's being said is they were going northbound and the alleged person, a drunk driver, came southbound and hit them head on," she said. Dig deeper A Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash report states that Esiyah died at the scene. Three other young ladies in their 20's were in the car that she was a back seat passenger in. Two were seriously hurt. The other suffered minor injuries. All but Esiyah are listed as "yes" for a safety device. The report also says the man who hit them is a 61-year-old Missouri man who suffered minor injuries. It does not say whether he was under the influence. "I don't want my daughter to just be a body. She just be another person and the person got away with it," said parker. She says her daughter went to Camden's Creative Arts High School and went on to graduate from Wiley University which is an HBCU in Marshall, Texas. The university posted a video of Esiyah on its Facebook talking about her full scholarship there as a musician for singing. She was also active in her community. The group ended its rally at Farnham Park. "Father we stand with her family Lord declaring their sorrow today," said a man during prayer. "I don’t think nobody should have to bury their child. WISCONSIN (FOX 9) - Crash numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) show there have been 25 fatal crashes so far this year, and state officials are sounding the alarm. Fatal Wisconsin ATV and UTV crashesBy the numbers Wisconsin officials say the biggest contributing factors to these fatal crashes are not wearing a helmet or using a seat belt. There have been 25 fatal ATV and UTV crashes in Wisconsin so far this year. Five of them were 18 or younger. In public spaces, riders are required to wear a helmet in Wisconsin if they are under 18. Only one of those five fatal crash victims was wearing a helmet. In 2024, there were 40 fatalities; of those, 21 involved alcohol, and 85% were not wearing a helmet. ATVs do not have seat belts, but UTVs do. Wisconsin DNR implores the public to wear helmets and seat beltsWhat they're saying "Speed, alcohol, careless and reckless operation. Cơ quan điều hành sẽ thẩm định nhanh chỉ trong 1 ngày làm việc kể từ khi nhận đủ hồ sơ hợp lệ sẽ có văn bản chấp thuận tạm thời tư cách thành viên (hiệu lực tối đa 1 tháng), trong thời hạn 7 ngày sẽ quyết định chính thức việc công nhận thành viên. Hồ sơ đăng ký cũng chỉ gồm những giấy tờ cơ bản (đăng ký doanh nghiệp, báo cáo tài chính 3 năm, phương án hoạt động). Các tổ chức kinh tế nằm trong danh sách Fortune 500 sẽ được công nhận là thành viên mà không cần thủ tục đăng ký. Theo cơ quan soạn thảo, tinh thần này sẽ được cụ thể trong quy chế của TTTCQT, giúp thu hút các tập đoàn tài chính lớn. Ngoài ra, các thủ tục hành chính khác liên quan đến cơ chế chính sách đặc thù đều được quy định theo hướng “một cửa” tại chỗ. Cụ thể, thủ tục cấp phép thử nghiệm fintech (sandbox) sẽ do chính cơ quan điều hành TTTCQT xem xét cấp; các hoạt động về kiểm tra, giám sát sẽ được thực hiện bởi cơ quan giám sát của TTTCQT. Trong một diễn biến mới, Ngân hàng TMCP Quân đội (MB) và Tập đoàn Dunamu - một trong những doanh nghiệp tài sản số lớn nhất Hàn Quốc đã ký biên bản ghi nhớ (MoU) hợp tác triển khai sàn giao dịch tài sản số đầu tiên tại Việt Nam. Theo thỏa thuận, Dunamu sẽ là đối tác chiến lược của MB, chia sẻ công nghệ, hạ tầng và tư vấn về tuân thủ pháp lý, bảo vệ nhà đầu tư và phát triển nhân lực. The Brief Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard is working to make a change to the system that he says allowed three children to fall off the grid. Bouchard says a school lost track of the three Pontiac children after they transferred, allowing them to live on their own for several years in squalor. PONTIAC, Mich. (FOX 2) - It’s been six months since three kids were found living on their own in deplorable conditions, as their own mother was accused of abandoning them for five years. State lawmakers are now working to prevent something like this from ever happening again. Big picture view People may recall when Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said a school lost track of the three Pontiac children after they transferred, allowing them to fall off the grid for years. He said he's been working with state lawmakers on a fix that he hopes to have in place by the start of the new school year. Bouchard was fresh off a state senate committee hearing on a proposed law aiming to close down a gap in the school system blamed for allowing the three children to live on their own for several years in squalor. They were then found in February, abandoned by their mother, Kelli Bryant, according to prosecutors. "I was told that one school asked for transcripts and the other school sent it in," Bouchard said. "Both may have presumed the other school had them or didn’t have them. He said he started pushing for change after finding a key flaw in the school code. He's not alone. Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald joined Bouchard in backing the proposed law designed to improve communication between schools when students transfer. "It basically simply says that once you send those transcripts, you can’t assume that the other school have those kids," Bouchard said. "You’ve got to follow up and ask a question before you un-enroll them from your school." What's next If no answer is given, Bouchard says it will either trigger a truancy investigation or get police officers involved in figuring out where a kid is, if not in either school. "What happened? Where did they go? So it just fills that void that these kids fell through and hopefully prevents that from ever happening to another child," Bouchard said. The backstory Bryant’s three kids, ages 12, 13 and 15, were found back in February living in filth in a Pontiac condo after the landlord requested a welfare check. Police found trash and feces everywhere. She was charged with first-degree child abuse. State Senator Jeremy Moss of Southfield is sponsoring a bill to help children in the future. He’s hoping to have the new law in place by the beginning of the new school year. "The situation was uncovered in the late winter. We went to work on the bill almost immediately. Official state ratings from the Texas Education Agency are set to be released this Friday. FORT WORTH, Texas - One year after 31 campuses in Fort Worth ISD received a failure rating, new ratings bring that number down to 11. In addition, Fort Worth ISD says 63 schools in total increased by one letter grade or maintained an "A" rating. Fort Worth ISD A-F ratingsThe district credits the significant change in academic excellence to the newly adopted strategic plan and a focus on literacy and math. Fort Worth ISD’s state A-F scores have recently put the district at risk of a state takeover. In 2023, the scores showed that one campus received a failure rating for the fifth consecutive year; a threshold that prompts state involvement. According to state law, Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath is required to either close the campus or take over the district. However, Fort Worth ISD chose to close the school in 2023. The 2024 scores were delayed after several school districts sued the agency to delay their release. Last month, a court of appeals overturned a lower court's ruling, allowing them to be released. Earlier this month, Morath told the state senate during an education committee hearing that he is still deciding on a plan of action for the district. Education commissioner weighs inWhat they're saying "I'll be going back and doing some on-site visits as soon as school starts up. I want to get a good basis for the facts on the ground. We're also analyzing other factors," Morath said. "I don't know what the right decision is either. National Guard is expected to begin ramping up its presence along the National Mall and at the federal monuments in Washington overnight Wednesday into Thursday, according to several officials familiar with the plans. Officials said the Trump administration is still in the process of setting up a joint task force, which will be led by Army Col. Larry Doane. While the task force is expected to include 800 activated soldiers, D.C. residents won't see that many on the streets. The troops will work in shifts of 100 to 200 troops at a time, and some of them will be assigned to administrative or logistical roles in support of local law enforcement, officials told ABC News. ABC News producers did not see any National Guard or increased law enforcement presence around Washington Wednesday afternoon -- including around the National Mall, D.C. Armory or in Logan Circle where a man was gunned down and killed earlier this week. A White House official told ABC News that, beginning Wednesday night, officials expected a "significantly higher National Guard presence to be on the ground throughout Washington, D.C." The White House official added that beginning Wednesday night, the deployment will transition to round-the-clock, 24/7 operations. Those operations had been previously focused on evening and overnight hours. On Tuesday night, more than 1,450 federal law enforcement officers and National Guard members patrolled Washington, according to a White House official. Law enforcement teams made 43 arrests on Tuesday night -- nearly twice the number made Monday night, the official said. Those law enforcement teams included 750 D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officers who were "uniformed, marked as patrol and directly assigned as anti-crime officers," the White House official said. That was in addition to the federal law enforcement who had been previously mobilized in the area. The White House official said that there were about 30 National Guard troops on the ground last night. After Trump's announcement Monday, approximately 850 officers and agents fanned out over D.C. right after Trump declared a crime emergency in the capital, making 23 arrests, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday. On Tuesday, National Guard troops were spotted on the National Mall, with many stationed around the base of the Washington Monument. The troops left Wednesday morning. It was not immediately clear why the presence of U.S. troops along the National Mall was needed, other than to put Trump's orders on display. The area, marked by museums, monuments and long stretches of grass, is known as a relatively safe part of the city that attracts mostly tourists and school groups.
