Nguồn tin cho hay, thi thể anh Mạnh được phát hiện dưới một hốc hang đá ở sườn dốc trong rừng, cách động Sơn Cung (nơi anh Mạnh để lại ba lô cá nhân) hơn 500m về phía bìa rừng. Nơi đây lực lượng tìm kiếm đã rà soát nhiều lần nhưng không thấy. Chiều 19/8, Phòng Cảnh sát giao thông (CSGT) Công an tỉnh Đắk Lắk đã thông tin về nguyên nhân vụ lật xe khách xảy ra trên đường Hồ Chí Minh, thuộc địa bàn xã Krông Búk. Hiện trường vụ tai nạn. Ảnh: NH Theo báo cáo của Phòng CSGT tỉnh Đắk Lắk, khoảng 5h30 cùng ngày, xe khách mang BKS: 50H-550.55 do tài xế Kim Nươi (40 tuổi, ngụ TP Cần Thơ) điều khiển lưu thông trên đường Hồ Chí Minh, theo hướng từ Đắk Lắk đi Gia Lai. Khi xe đến đường cua thuộc địa phận xã Krông Búk, ông Nươi đã thiếu chú ý quan sát để xe lao vào lề rồi lật nghiêng. Thời điểm xảy ra tai nạn trên xe có 46 người. Ngay sau đó, người dân và lực lượng chức năng đã dùng xà beng phá cửa kính, giải cứu những người bị kẹt trong xe đưa ra ngoài. Lực lượng công an phải vào trong xe đưa người ra ngoài. Trung tâm Y tế Krông Búk cho biết, sau khi tai nạn xảy ra đơn vị này đã tiếp nhận 38 người nhưng sau đó đã chuyển 11 bệnh nhân lên Bệnh viện Đa khoa vùng Tây Nguyên. The heavily traveled Alcoa Highway is like a useful old truck you've driven for years. As much as you've always depended on it, now it just keeps needing more work. In the case of Alcoa Highway, that work has been going on since 2016, prompting frustrated drivers to wonder when ‒ or if ‒ the project will ever be finished. The highway ‒ also known as State Route 115 and U.S. 129 ‒ is a primary connector between Knoxville, Alcoa, Maryville and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. McGhee Tyson Airport is a major destination as well. Alcoa Highway construction is meant to improve "capacity, geometric deficiencies and safety issues throughout the corridor," according to tn.gov. The work along Alcoa Highway will eventually be finished, but it might be later than many drivers are hoping, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. What are they building on Alcoa Highway?The Alcoa Highway project widens and adds safety improvements to the thoroughfare. The huge project is divided into seven segments. Two segments have been completed, three are under construction, one is scheduled to begin in 2028, and the last one has not yet had timing set. The current work involves grading, constructing reinforcing soil walls, relocating phone and internet lines, erecting beams for one of the bridges, installing a storm drain and retaining wall construction. "To date the contractor has worked to progress the phase 1 of the project," TDOT spokesperson Mark Nagi said in an email to Knox News. "This work includes the construction of LifeStar Road, the installation of utilities including water, gas, electric, and communication relocations. In addition, the contractor has worked on the beginning of the construction of 12 retaining walls, two bridges, proposed storm drain, as well as grading efforts for the roadway widening." Why are there rolling roadblocks on Alcoa Highway?Traffic patterns have changed as construction shifts, but at least two lanes are open on Alcoa Highway, one in each direction. To accommodate construction work, TDOT periodically implements rolling roadblocks that delay traffic where work is happening. The section from north of Maloney Road to Woodson Drive was completed in 2023. From south of Little River to north of Maloney Road, this section is under construction and planned for completion this summer. The highway from Woodson Drive to the Cherokee Trail Interchange is under construction and is expected to be completed in fall 2027. Additional information on the Woodson Drive to the Cherokee Trail Interchange: This section is the largest design, bid and build project awarded by the department in its history, according to Nagi. Charles Blalock & Sons Inc. of Sevierville was awarded the contract in 2023 at a cost $186 million. "Improvements follow the existing alignment and consist of widening the existing roadway to six lanes (three in each direction)," Nagi said. "A modified interchange will be included at Cherokee Trail and at the entrance to UT Medical Center." What parts of Alcoa Highway are being worked on in Blount County?Roughly 51,131 vehicles travel on Alcoa Highway near the Blount County line each day. A segment from north of SR 35 (Hall Road) to the proposed interchange at Tyson Boulevard was completed in summer 2022. A segment from the proposed interchange at Tyson Boulevard to SR 115 at South Singleton Station is under construction, with an estimated completion date in fall 2027. Under construction, estimated to be finished in 2028, the relocated Alcoa Highway from the proposed interchange at Tyson Boulevard to SR 115 at South Singleton Station. The section from South Singleton Station to south of Little River is under construction with a completion date still to be announced. A retired Nova Scotia RCMP constable has been found liable for an unlawful arrest seven years ago of a man who sued the officer and the force after he said the Mountie injured his shoulder. In a decision released last week, Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice Ann Smith found Const. Daniel MacDonald, who retired from the force in 2023, did not have lawful grounds to arrest Sean Naugle in June 2018. On June 3, 2018, MacDonald was responding to a 911 call about a fight at a home in Pictou County. He was the first police officer to arrive on the scene and placed one of the fighters under arrest. In the course of that arrest, MacDonald learned the man had concealed an axe in a nearby car. It was as he approached that car that MacDonald encountered Naugle. Naugle said the arrest violated his Charter rights. Excessive force?In her decision, Smith said she had to determine whether MacDonald had lawful grounds to make the arrest and whether he used excessive force. In addition to the civil lawsuit, Naugle also filed a formal complaint with the RCMP, which, according to the court decision, investigated the incident but took no further action. The investigating officer was one of the witnesses in the civil hearing, which was held in late January of this year. Smith said she found the investigating officer, Cpl. Ronald Bryce, to be a credible witness, in part because he did not go out of his way to defend MacDonald's actions. One example cited by the judge was Bryce questioning MacDonald's search for weapons. Bryce said he found it strange that MacDonald started searching in the front of the vehicle when the axe was reported to be concealed under a blanket in the trunk. The search eventually turned up both the axe and a replica handgun. Bryce also admitted under cross-examination by Naugle's lawyer that MacDonald may not have been truthful when he told the corporal that Naugle had shoved him prior to the arrest. 'Fabricated' portion of evidenceThe judge was also skeptical of MacDonald's account of when and where he spotted weapons in the car. "When considering the totality of the evidence on this point, in my view, Cst. MacDonald's evidence that he viewed weapons in the rear of the vehicle prior to the search does not accord with the 'preponderance of probabilities,'" Smith wrote. "Considering the evidence before the court, I conclude that Cst. MacDonald fabricated this portion of his evidence to justify and bolster his grounds for arresting Mr. Naugle." The judge found MacDonald could not have spotted the weapons because they were concealed under a blanket. She also found Naugle was shouting about the legality of the search from about three metres away from the constable and so he did not obstruct him. The judge found MacDonald lacked "probable and reasonable grounds" for arresting Naugle, and "is liable for tortious battery and the Charter breaches claimed." "This case really highlights why the civil justice system is essential," said lawyer Mike Dull, who represented Naugle in his civil suit. "You know, in this case, our court carefully examined all the evidence, even when it comes to the evidence of a police officer, and after doing that came to the conclusion that the police officer's version of events was not credible." Dull said an agreement was made before the judge's decision that if Naugle was successful, he would be paid compensation. However, Dull said the amount of that compensation is confidential. A pair of Nissan Qashqai e-Power hybrids have just completed an 837-mile trip on one tank of fuel. The two cars drove from Land’s End to John O’Groats with Nissan experts from its Technical Centre Europe in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, at the wheel. Both vehicles finished the journey with 100 miles remaining in their fuel tanks, which resulted in an average fuel consumption figure of 75mpg – representing best-in-class for economy. Under the bonnet, the cars feature Nissan’s updated e-Power hybrid setup which comes fitted with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor to produce 201bhp – compared to 187bhp in the old model. Meanwhile, CO2 emissions have been reduced from 116g/km to 102g/km Dean Driver, vehicle evaluation engineer, said: “Driving the Qashqai e-Power from Land’s End to John O’Groats really showcased the strength of the new powertrain. Not only did it deliver a smooth and quiet drive throughout the journey, but we completed over 800 miles with fuel still in the tank – proving just how far this technology has come in combining range with refinement.” The Qashqai with the updated e-Power hybrid powertrain is available to order now, with prices starting at £34,860 for the entry-level car.
