應印度國家安全顧問多瓦爾（Ajit Doval）邀請，中國外長王毅將於8月18日至19日訪問印度，與多瓦爾一同參加中印邊界問題特別代表第24次會晤，並將與印度總理莫迪（Narendra Modi）和外長蘇傑生（Subrahmanyam Jaishankar）會面。

《印度時報》（Times of India）報道，王毅將於19日與莫迪會晤，亦是王毅三年來首次訪問印度。

中印邊界問題特別代表會晤是兩國邊界談判的高級別渠道。中國外交部發言人毛寧18日主持例行記者會時表示， 中方願以外長王毅此次訪問印度為契機，同印方一道努力落實好兩國領導人的重要共識，共同維護好邊境地區可持續的和平安寧。

印度總理莫迪則計劃於8月31日至9月1日訪華，出席將在天津舉行的上海合作組織（SCO）高峰會。
