Flash floods slam El Paso: Cars submerged, roads flooded

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso area was slammed by flash flooding late Tuesday evening, Aug. 12, particularly hard hit was the Kern Place area near UTEP.

El Paso Fire is also reporting cars stranded by floodwater in West El Paso near Porfirio Diaz and the Eastside near Rojas.

No injuries have been reported.

El Paso Fire is reporting that multiple vehicles were stuck in water in the area around Mesa and Cincinnati and Mesa and McKelligon. A Fire Department spokesperson said that people had to get themselves out to their vehicles and do a “self-rescue.”

The Fire Department is asking the Police Department to close down streets in those areas in the Kern Place area that were hit with floods.

The Fire Department also reported cars stalled in floodwaters on the Eastside near Rojas and the Westside near Porfirio Diaz.

Fire Department is also requesting that police close I-10 at Downtown on-ramp.
